The winds were tricky and relentless all weekend at the BEN AVERY SHOOTING FACILITY in Phoenix, but that didn’t stop the college archers from giving it their best. The 2008 National Indoor Championships were contested at regional sites throughout the country in February and March. Eligible college athletes competed in both the senior and college divisions.
Dakota Sinclair of Arizona State University claimed the title for Male Recurve Collegiate Champion for the second time and finished 5th in Senior Men’s Division. 2nd place went to University of Washington senior Jeff Anderson and 3rd place was earned by Nathan McCullough from James Madison University.
Columbia University women swept the top three spots for the Female Recurve Division with freshman Margot Stuchin taking top honor, followed by Sara Mancini in second and Robin Liang in third. Margot also earned third place in the Senior Women’s Division.
Continuing his 4-year domination in male compound division, Braden Gellenthien of James Madison University claimed the Collegiate Championship for his fourth and final year in the College Archery Program. Braden placed 3rd in Senior Men’s Division, while teammate Jedd Greshock placed second and Stephen Schwade from the University of South Carolina earned third place.
James Madison’s Brittany Lorenti earned the National title for the first time and finished 5th in Senior Women’s, while Texas A&M’s Cassie Raffaelli earned 2nd place. Third place was earned by Lindsay Christensen from Weber State University.

Deadline to register is March 14th. Late registrations will be accepted with an additional fee and on a space available basis.
The CAP Western Regional Championships decides the best collegiate shooters from over 20 schools (PAC 10 and more). Last year, we had just under 100 CAP archers in attendance… this year should be even bigger.
Because the Ben Avery field is so large and there has been requeted interest… this year, we will section off a piece of the field for GUEST archers. Guests can shoot either a FITA (adult distances only… we don’t want to interfere with the AZ JOAD Champs going on that same weekend) or a 900 round. The 900 round is 60, 50, 40 meters at the large face - 30 arrows each distance. This is great for those newer archers (or the older crew) who may not be ready to shoot 90 or 70 meters.
This event is a STAR FITA, so it will count towards world records and USA Archery qualifying scores.
Pay attention to hotel reservation deadline dates as prices jump drastically if you miss them.
Keep in mind that the AAE/AZ Cup is the week before. April 9-13th. Anyone who would simply like to stay around may do so and practice with the ASU team at Papago (for free) or on their own at Ben Avery in the practice range ($5/day) between the two events.
Also, the 3rd leg of the Olympic Trials is shortly thereafter on the same field.
