USA COLLEGE ARCHERY PROGRAM
7-10 July 2008

The World University Championships will be held in Chinese Taipei Jul 7-10, 2008. USA Archery, College Archery Program will be fielding a full team to this event. (3 each from Women compound, men compound, women recurve, men recurve plus 2 coaches and 1 team leader).

Team selection: The USA team trials will run concurrently with 2008 USIACs to be held in Cape May, New Jersey. The top three finishers in each class from the FITA portion of the tournament (qualifying round) will form the 2008 USA WUAC team.

Requirements to compete WUAC team selection: 

  1. athletes must be officially registered for and pursuing a full-time course of study at a university or college that is recognized by USA CAP as a compliant Institute of Higher Learning;
  2. or former students of a CAP compliant IHL who graduated in the prior year (so between May 16, 2007 and May 15, 2008). Athletes who have graduated during the previous year will be required to provide proof of graduation a minimum of 15 days PRIOR to World University Team Trials. Proof of graduation and age eligibility must be sent to the CAP Registrar, Lorretta Sinclair at PO Box 1827, Ridgecrest, CA 93556 at the time of registration for World University Team Trials or no later than 15 days prior to the team trials. Athletes who do not provide proof of graduation and age requirement by the stated deadlines will not be allowed to compete.
  3. Athletes must have been born between 1 January 1980 and December 31 of 1990. Athletes must be minimum age 17 and less than 28 on 1 January of 2008.
  4. Current student athletes must meet CAP eligibility requirements and be listed on the CAP eligibility roster minimum 15 days prior to the team trials.
  5. All athletes must be USAA members

Team Coaches: TBD. A list of available college coaches will be submitted to the USAA Coaches Development Committee.

Competition events: Team USA will compete in the Individual qualifications, elimination rounds, and team rounds. The top man and woman from each division in the qualification round will compete in the mixed team round.

Competition format: Qualification round is a double 70meter round. Elimination matches are also competed at 70meters. Team round is competed at 70m on a ‘hit or miss’ target, as is mixed team round.

Team rounds: Only the top 16 teams will compete in team round. Mixed team round: only the top 8 teams will compete.

Travel dates: departing LAX 4 July – arriving in Taipei 5 July. Team USA will leave Taipei on 11 July. Team USA will depart together from Los Angeles International Airport. It is a 17 hour flight. Each team member will be responsible for getting from their hometown to LAX on 4 July 2008.

Accommodations: The athlete’s village is at the Chang Jung Christan University. Team USA and coaches will stay there during the event. Food will be served buffet style.

Transportation: Each team will be provided a private bus for travel to and from the airport. Funding will be set aside to rent a van for travel purposes/emergency contingent. if necessary.

Port of Entry: Kaohsiung Hsiao Kang International Airport – a 1 hour drive from the tournament venue.

Legal paperwork: Passports and visas are REQUIRED. USA passports must have more than 180 days left on the expiration date from the date of travel. That means your passport expiration date must be good through January 11th 2010. Check your passports NOW. More information regarding VISA’s will be forthcoming. If you do not have a passport but plan to compete for the team, you must have your passport by the time of the World University Team Trials. Fees are $100 plus the cost of pictures. Drug testing: All athletes are subject to drug testing before, during and after the World University Archery Championships.

Code of Conduct: Each athlete will be required to sign the code of conduct. Any athlete in violation will be returned home regardless of whether the tournament is completed or not. Expenses incurred to be sent back to the USA will be the responsibility of the athlete. No alcohol will be allowed.

Funding: It is a self-funded trip at this time. Coaching staff is not currently funded either, so all athletes on the team will be required to pay 1/12th of the coaches fees and travel expenses. I have estimated the travel expenses. We won’t have a final amount until the team is chosen and actual airfares purchased.

Team Uniforms: Each team member is required to have 2 pairs of khaki pants/shorts and 1 pair of navy blue khaki pants/shorts. (Women’s teams may choose skirts/skorts that comply with FITA regulations). The purchase of team shirts and warm up suits will be required. Information and sizing forms will be provided at World University Team Trials after team selection.

Other requirements: At USIACs, each athlete who is selected to the team must provide the following

  1. 2 copies of the front page of their passports,
  2. a signed letter of intent to compete and an understanding of the requirements
  3. 50% deposit – cash, check, money order
  4. Sign the Code of Conduct acknowledging USA rules and procedures and acceptance to abide by them
  5. Uniform measurements (form to be provided at a later date)

By 2 June 2008, each athlete must submit to the team leader (designation at a later time):

  1. Balance of the cost of the event
  2. Proof of airline ticket purchase to LAX
  3. Forms required for competition at WUAC (to be provided at USIACs)
  4. Proof of VISA
