Arizona Cup International

Kari Granville, Sun Devil Archery Team leader and coach, re-established the ASU tradition of hosting the Arizona Cup International Archery Championship by taking on the role of Tournament Director, www.sundevilarchery.com. Appropriately, collegiate archers played a prominate role in this year’s tournament.  

The Men’s Compound division was dominated by collegiate archers with Jedd Greshock of James Madison University taking home the gold, Logan Wilde (Idaho State University) taking the bronze, and Braden Gellenthien (James Madison University) taking fourth place. 

Other individual medalists included Ashley Kamuf of Indiana University who took home silver in the Women’s Recurve division, Nate McCullough of the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, took the bronze in Men’s Recurve, and Anna Stratton of Texas A&M University took fourth in Women’s Compound. In the open team division, college archer Jeff Anderson of the University of Washington, along with teammates Pete Carney and Ed Eliason won the open team round title in Men’s Recurve. In the Men’s Compound team round, collegiate archer Josh Binger of Texas A&M University, John Fleury, and Mel Nichols placed second, and team JMU of Greshock, Gellenthien, and Steven Schwade placed third. Women’s recurve first place team was led by Arizona State University archer Lindsey Pian who teamed with Junior recurve archers Maggie Huff and Stephanie Girard (Can). To round out the collegiate team medalists, the JMU Compound Women’s team of Brittany Lorenti, Joayn Fleury, and Jessica Fasula took first prize in the open competition.

All in all, archers from fifteen colleges took part in the 2006 Arizona Cup. 40 collegiate archers including large teams from James Madison University and Columbia University competed. All collegiates competed in both the college and senior divisions. All results including the collegiate 2X72 round are posted at www.arizonacup.com
