California Archers - UC Berkeley

California Archery (UC Berkeley Club) was formed in the Spring of 2005. The club has around 40 members and is a mix of men and women, pursuing a variety of majors. The predominant style of the club is Olympic recurve, with a few compound archers and a few barebow shooters.

Although a few members came to Berkeley with some archery experience, the majority learned after joining the club. Most of the club members are recreational shooters, but there is also a competitive team that travels to tournaments.

The club has an indoor (18m) range and an outdoor (70m) practice facility, shooting from home plate to center field on the baseball field, with full sized FITA target matts on campus, but also travels to local parks and private ranges to augment its practice times.

California Archery’s advisor is Professor Dennis K. Lieu (Mechanical Engineering), who usually practices with the competitive team, and also provides instruction to beginning archers.

The team will be traveling to Korea this summer to train for a week at the Korean National Sport University in Seoul. In July, Dr. Jinho Kim (former Olympic medalist and former world champion) will come to UC Berkeley, and stay for one to two years!

U.S. Collegiate Archery Needs Your Support!

Posted by publicist on 20 Feb 2006 | Tagged as: Announcements

The collegiate division of US Archery is the fastest growing division today. In 2005, more than 200 college archers competed at the US Intercollegiate Archery Championships (USIACs). This group of archers receives no outside support, little media attention, and zero sponsorship. Yet, it will be archers in this division that will be the next Sr. USAT members, and are some of our brightest Olympic prospects.

Sponsor College Archery in 2006!

Offer equipment discounts to the All-Americans/All-Academics

There are 38 All-Americans and in 2005-06, there are 22 All-Academic Team members. Many college archers are struggling to pay for school—getting new equipment is difficult. Please help encourage these young athletes by offering discounts. In 2005, Easton, Sure-loc, Alpen Outdoors, and Doinker sponsored the All-Americans.

What do you get?

  1. Your logo displayed prominently on the collegiate website (www.uscollegiatearchery.org)
  2. Your company banner displayed at 2006 USIAC in Los Angeles
  3. We will publicly thank the companies at the USIAC awards banquet.
  4. You get the satisfaction of helping some really great archers!

Sponsor the Posters

Sponsor the 2006-07 All-American or All-Academic posters. The All-American poster features full-color individual pictures of each archer along with their name and school. The All-Academic will be a group picture, with the names of the archers. Sponsorship for the All-American poster is $500. Sponsorship for the All-Academic poster is $200. Posters are then distributed to JOAD clubs, archery shops, and universities throughout the country.

What do you get?

  1. Your logo prominently displayed on the poster
  2. Your logo prominently displayed on the collegiate website.
  3. A public ‘thank you’ for your company support at the USIAC awards banquet

Sponsor a ‘Rookie’

There are 4 Rookie of the Year awards given out at USIACs (2 male, 2 female). These archers usually use borrowed club equipment from their universities. We would like to present the 2006-07 Rookies each with a new bow.

What do you get?

  1. First, you get to support an archer who doesn’t probably even own equipment.
  2. We will put the pictures of each Rookie of the Year on the website and state which company sponsored them for a bow.
  3. We will publicly announce your sponsorship at the USIAC banquet.
  4. Public recognition in an article to US Archery describing the rookie competition and your company’s sponsorship.

I look forward to announcing your company support at the USIAC banquet in May!
