Compound, Recurve Athletes Face the World’s Best College Archers in Serbia
July 12, 2009 – Belgrade, SERBIA– The USA College Archery Program proudly announces that the team of archers which represented the United States at the World University Games has won team gold and silver medals, and individual gold and bronze medals, at this international event in Belgrade, Serbia. After top-notch performances throughout this event, the United States team rose to the challenge in the finals to take a silver medal in the Mixed Team, Compound event; gold in the Mens’ Team, Compound category; a bronze medal in the Women’s Individual, Compound division and a gold medal in the Men’s Individual, Compound category. The team that represented the United States at the World University Games faced the best college competitors in the world, with teams hailing from 41 countries, including Korea, Italy and the Russian Federation.

Ed Eliason, veteran of almost 50 years of competitive target archery, has been added to the staff for the West Region CALST Workshop, scheduled for July 1-4 at UC Berkeley. Also a war veteran, Ed earned a Bronze and Silver Star for his efforts as a Green Beret in Vietnam. In 1972 he was a member of the U.S. Archery Team at the Munich summer games. In 1989 Ed garnered the National Archery Association (NAA) “Athlete of the Year” award. Besides 2 National Field Archery Association (NFAA) national outdoor titles, Ed has won 5 individual national NAA championships between 1988 and 1991. He has represented teams throughout the world. His knowledge, experience and personable manner has made him an international seminar and archery school favorite in his extensive travels for Easton Aluminum.

Important Updates and Questions: The Future of USA College Archery
Anyone who is interested in college archery (and how it relates to our industry at large) is urged to take a look at Lorretta Sinclair’s blog. For those of you who don’t know Lorretta, she’s the Program Director for USA College Archery, which is quickly becoming one of archery’s fastest-growing membership organizations. Her most recent blog post is “College Archery: Who Are We and Where Are We Going?” which asks important questions about the structure and future direction of our program.
Whether you are a current member of USA College Archery, a parent of a college archer, or a JOAD, ASA, IBO, NASP or ASAP member who plans to continue shooting in college, or even a concerned third party – what happens with USA College Archery impacts the growth of the sport and the archery industry at large. Please take a moment to get updated on the growth of this great organization, and don’t hesitate to e-mail Publicist Teresa Iaconi with any feedback or questions.

Athletes Recognized for Outstanding Competitive Performances
USA College Archery has announced the members of its 2009 All-American Team. This prestigious honor, which represents the very best of USA College Archery, has been awarded to the top archers in each category who achieved the highest combined finishes at National Indoor Championships and the recent United States Intercollegiate Archery Championships (USIAC). Recognition for the 2009 All-American team included Certificates of Merit and medals awarded at the USIAC Banquet.

College Archers, Teams Shine at USIAC, World University Games Team Selected
The United States Intercollegiate Archery Championship (USIAC) was held this weekend, hosted by the California State University, Long Beach Archery Club. The tournament was a rousing success, with over thirty five different colleges and universities represented, and 211 archers participating. In the team rounds, archers were challenged by the new “Hit or Miss” target, and the team that will represent the United States at the World University Games was selected. The success of this year’s USIAC represents a significant step in the growth of the USA College Archery Program.

On 1-4 August, 2009, the US Olympic Committee will be hosting the 2009 F.L.A.M.E. (Finding Leaders Among Minorities Everywhere) program. Download the application for more information on the program and how to apply.
Celebrating its 16th year, F.L.A.M.E. is a dynamic, educational program packed with leadership enhancement opportunities, the chance to learn from USOC leaders, Olympians and Paralympians, engage in sports demonstrations and enhance self-discovery.
Participants will spend four inspirational-filled days at the U.S. Olympic Complex in Colorado Springs, Colorado with other college student leaders from around the country. Participants receive FREE roundtrip airfare from their hometowns to Colorado Springs, Colorado, and live like Olympic hopefuls in the athlete dormitory. Additional program expenses are also covered by the USOC.
